ICYMI: Congressman Allen Hosts Telephone Town Hall

In case you missed it, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) held a telephone town hall earlier this week to answer questions from residents across Georgia’s 12th District. More than 6,000 constituents joined Monday’s call where Congressman Allen provided updates on current political issues such as the devastating war in Israel, the 21st-century workforce, a bill aimed at protecting retirement savings, the crisis at our southern border, and more.

For those unable to participate in the call, here are some of the highlights:

Tom from Augusta asked about the crisis unfolding on our southern border:

Congressman Allen: "We passed H.R. 2 in May and what it does is it secures our border by doing the following: makes the Biden Administration restart the construction of the border wall... It deploys technology to the southern and northern border. It increases the number of border patrol agents and gives them bonus pay. It requires transparency regarding illegal crossings. It prevents human trafficking for children traveling alone. The problem you’ve got is these people know how to play the game, and the cartel controls the southern border."

Patricia from Vidalia asked about the surge in antisemitism on college campuses:

Congressman Allen
"We passed H. Res. 798 last week which condemns this support for Hamas and Hezbollah and any other terrorist organization on U.S. college campuses... we should not see this in this country... Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles... and this cannot be tolerated."

Clinton from Martinez asked about the upcoming Farm Bill:

Congressman Allen:
"...I am part of the Southeast regional WHIP team for [Agriculture Committee] Chairman Thompson and we are still getting input on the Farm Bill. Obviously we have to get this or at least get some type of extension passed through Congress before we leave here for the Christmas holidays and we are getting input on that now."

Edward from Grovetown asked about inflation and the Social Security Administration's Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase:

Congressman Allen:
"The COLA [will be] adjusted 3.2% for 2024 and is based on the CPI inflation Index...  I understand that, even with the COLA increase, benefits don’t go as far because we are seeing as much as 17% inflation on many of the essential products that we use every day... frankly we've got to change course [from] Democrats' failed policies. There is no reason that we should be experiencing this kind of inflation. The reason we are experiencing it is that they’ve got their foot on the brake and the accelerator at the same time..."
